When the power went out on Earthquake Sunday, what did I do? I built a theremin. A theremin is an electronic device that produces a pitch at a frequency proportional to the inverse square of the distance to an antenna. Basically it works by varying the coupled capacitance of the user’s body (i.e., hand) with the antenna capacitance.
I decided to undertake this project because my company is involved with the Lacy Veach Day of Discovery at Punahou School on October 28, 2006. I think this is the 4th or 5th year of the event.
